Ardglass Golf Club

Ardglass Golf Club

Overview

Ardglass Golf Club is home to the world's oldest clubhouse, dating back to 1405. Golf dates back to 1896 but interestingly there wasn't an 18 hole layout here until 1970. The scenery is perhaps unsurpassed bar it's close neighbour Royal County Down, which is located just 30minutes down the road. Most of the course sits on a rocky plateau, full of personality, quirks and best played with a large helping of local knowledge. The first half dozen holes could well be the most exciting stretch of golf in all of Ireland. With the almost ever-present wind capable of wreaking havoc from any quarter, the hard fairways and the small firm greens, it is just about impossible to play “yardage based” golf on this links. But that's why it's so much fun. The club is blessed to have such an enthusiastic ambassador and Director of Golf in Paul Vaughan. In recent years he has turned Ardglass from a hidden gem into a mainstream destination, allowing thousands of visiting golfers to experience this remarkable golf course. Pop in and say hello, and he'll give you the warmest of welcomes.
