Hogs Head Golf Club

Hogs Head Golf Club

Overview

Designed by legendary golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr, Hogs Head is a private member's club situated just a mile from Waterville Golf Links on the Ring of Kerry. Named after a marine bearing point on the Ballinskelligs Bay, the club lives by an ethos of “Built by friends, for friends”. Founders and Owners - Bryan Marsal and Tony Alvarez, each started with 25 friends, designated “Hog Captains”, who then brought five friends each into the club. The ensuing 250 members, plus the 50 Hog Captains, were then given one additional invite each. Today, the membership stands at 550, with 20% of tee times allocated to visiting golfers. Completed in 2017, this spectacular layout was voted as the “Best New International Course” by Golf.com. Built on a majestic peninsula outside Waterville Village with stunning sea, mountain, river, and lake views, Hogs Head plays high above the ocean atop dramatic cliffs. It has many classic design features including a nod to Tillinghast's theory on a gentle opening hole, and a Biarritz green (but interestingly found on a par 5). But the most notable inclusion is the 13th - a clifftop par 3, with not one but two infinity greens. This means the hole can be made to play anywhere from 165 - 230 yards. It's named Kathleen’s Choice in honour of Marsal's wife – “an Irish beauty who can push you over the edge.” Hogs Head and Waterville make the perfect Heli-Golf day from your base at Adare Manor or Killarney. The Kerry Mountains are a phenomenal sight from the air, and with a 36 hole day of this calibre, you're in for a treat.
