Woking Golf Club
Overview
Since 1893, Woking has been the jewel of Surrey heathland golf - the county’s oldest heathland course, the home of the first of the ‘3 Ws’ and consistently in the upper echelons of the UK's top 100 courses. Woking is a very much in the tradition of English golf clubs and retains its old character. The course has been lengthened in recent years and is now in excess of 6,500 yards from the back tees, however the real challenge of the course is the complexity of its undulating greens. In recent years, a significant investment programme has been undertaken including a reservoir, fairway watering system and greens drainage programme. In addition the club has undertaken an extensive woodland management programme to help the heather re-establish, which has resulted in many of the original stunning views across the course being reinstated. The pavilion-style clubhouse is magnificent. It exudes the charm of Woking – and offers superb food and drink in comfortable surroundings with the patio overlooking the 14th green becoming an integral part of the ambience of the Club. Woking has strong ties to seniors golf, and is home to the highly regarded Seniors Golf Society of Great Britain, which is made up of golfers from illustrious clubs throughout the home nations. This is a very strong entry on any golf trip, and plays a central role in the famous '3 W's'.
