Birkhill Castle

Birkhill Castle

Overview

Enjoy the history, theatre and atmosphere of staying in your very own luxurious Scottish Castle set within a 2000 acre estate just 25 minutes from St Andrews. Birkhill has been seat to the Earls of Dundee since the 13th Century. Sir Alexander Scrymgeour was awarded the title of Constable of Dundee for his gallant service by William Wallace, and Robert the Bruce made the title hereditary for Alexander's son Nicholas in 1324. Nicolas fought for Bruce in the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The current Castle replaced earlier dwellings and dates back to 1858. A wide range of reception rooms, 14 bedrooms, stables, gardens, outdoor swimming pool and private beach make Birkhill one of the most beautiful and exclusive accommodations in Scotland.
