The Castle Course
Overview
The newest addition to St Andrews Links, The Castle Course opened in 2008 becoming the seventh course at the Home of Golf and part of the largest golfing complex in Europe. Unlike it sister courses, The Castle is located a couple of miles out of town and is set on a rugged cliff-top with spectacular views over the harbour and St Andrews Cathedral. Two loops of nine holes make this a very sociable golf course, with refreshments available at the turn - which also lends The Castle to be an ideal corporate golf venue. The course perhaps appears more challenging than it actually plays. Wide fairways and a healthy dose of course management will allow you to score well around here. The greens are challenging - but this is part of the course's appeal and what makes it so different to several of the other St Andrews layouts. The closing stretch here is fabulous. 15 and 16 provide a couple of scoring opportunities before you're faced with the 200 yard par 3 17th, most of which is carry over a hundred foot drop to the crashing waves below. The round culminates with a classic risk-reward par 5 before you can enjoy a clubhouse refreshment overlooking one of the best panoramic views in Scotland.
